Muck Rack Search Experience

Less clicking. More insight. And no more extra tabs.

The Problem

Talk about tab overload. In Muck Rack’s PR Software platform, every time users wanted to check out a journalist’s background, they had to open a new tab, and then another, and then another…

What users needed was a faster, more efficient way to get the scoop on journalists without feeling like they were drowning in tabs.

The Fix

That’s where Journalist Quick View came into play —a faster way to check out journalist details without ever leaving your search. Now, with just a click, users get a compact view of key journalist info, recent articles, and contact details, all without opening a single new tab.

I partnered with project managers, UX designers and researchers to figure out exactly what users needed in this new quick view. We ran user tests on content hierarchy, figuring out what belonged in the Quick View and what needed to stay on the full profile.

Scope of work.

  • Content prioritization: Worked with the team to test and refine which information should show up in Quick View, making sure it hit that sweet spot between “just enough” and “not too much.” We focused on key details like journalist info, contact details, and recent articles.

  • User testing & feedback: Ran user testing sessions to evaluate different content hierarchy options and microcopy. We listened to what worked, what didn’t, and adjusted accordingly to make Quick View as user-friendly as possible.

  • Improved search experience: Collaborated on optimizing the search flow, so users could find and view journalist information faster. No more endless tab juggling—just quick, efficient research right within the search window.

  • Future-ready design: Designed Quick View with the future in mind. We’re already planning to add features like adding journalists to media lists and pitches, so users can do more, all from the same window.

Outcomes.

  • Research, simplified: With 83.5% of quick view visits not moving on to the full profile, it’s clear that users are finding what they need right away—no extra tabs required. The streamlined view gives them the key info they’re looking for in one click.

  • Higher user satisfaction: Feedback from users has been overwhelmingly positive. One user from the Zeno Group said it best: “I love that you can just see the contact info… I know exactly who I’m looking for. So not having to click and open it in a new tab just to get their email is super helpful.”

  • More efficient workflows: By reducing the need for multiple tabs, Quick View has made research faster and less cumbersome, keeping users focused on what matters—finding the right journalist without navigating chaos of multiple tabs.
